What is a Carbon footprint?
A carbon footprint measures the total greenhouse gas emissions caused directly and indirectly by a person, organization, event or product.
You can calculate your own carbon footprint here.
What are greenhouse gases?
They are gases (like carbon dioxide or methane) that act like a greenhouse, trapping the sun’s heat in the atmosphere and causing global warming.
How are common greenhouse gases generated?
Human activities are responsible for almost all of the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere over the last 150 years. They can be generated from different human activities like transportation, electricity production, burning fossil fuel, deforestation and more.

What is carbon offsetting?
An action or activity (such as the planting of trees or carbon sequestration) that compensates for the emission of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.
Is carbon offsetting the same as carbon reduction?
No. Carbon offsetting is not a substitute for carbon reduction.
Carbon reduction means to directly reduce direct greenhouse gas emissions, while carbon offset invests in projects to reduce emissions elsewhere to help compensate for our emissions. While Paula’s Choice actively looks at ways to reduce overall carbon emissions, carbon offsetting is a great way to positively impact the environment today.
Are the carbon offsets verified in any way?
Yes. Cloverly uses carbon credit projects that are verified by reputable organizations and registries in the voluntary market including Gold Standard, Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), American Carbon Registry (ACR), and other internationally recognized organizations to ensure the quality, accuracy, and integrity of our offsets.
How are the carbon emissions calculated?
Cloverly calculates carbon emissions and corresponding offsets using inputs tailored to the type of activity. For example, Cloverly uses distance travelled and fuel consumption to determine emissions for fleet trucks, aircraft, or other vehicles while considering the package weight and origin and destination locations.
What is exactly is being offset by Paula’s Choice?
Paula’s Choice is funding offsets for the carbon emissions for the transport of product orders placed on Paula’s Choice US, Australia, UK and EU websites.
